Using Microsoft Teams should soon be much faster and smoother for users around the world thanks to new speed updates.
The video conferencing service has announced a number of enhancements aimed at improving the user experience while navigating the Microsoft Teams platform.
The company says these changes should contribute to a 30% speed increase when switching between Microsoft Teams chats or channels.
Increasing the speed of Microsoft Teams
Among the new changes are fixes that make switching between chat and channel threads in Microsoft Teams much faster. This is due to the improved Microsoft Teams platform, which is now able to render HTML trees faster, run JavaScript, and serialize arrays more efficiently.
Overall, the company claims that switching between chat threads is now 32% faster and switching between channels is 39% faster compared to two years ago.
Elsewhere, the framework update also reduced the time to join Microsoft Teams calls by 21%. Responsiveness during meetings also improved for those who felt their actions were not reaching their audience – for example, delay in raising their hand improved by 16%.
“Our goal is to improve performance with every Teams update for our customers,” Microsoft’s Jeff Chen wrote in a blog post (opens in a new tab) announcing improvements.
“We continue to focus and invest in optimizing Microsoft Teams performance, and we value customer and partner feedback to help us prioritize the most critical scenarios.”
This news is the latest in a series of Microsoft Teams updates as the company strives to keep the platform helpful and intuitive for users around the world.
For example, the company recently added background effects to the web version of Microsoft Teams, meaning users will no longer need to download the desktop client or mobile app to access the feature. Effects include the ability to blur backgrounds and add custom wallpapers behind the speaker, which Microsoft says should make conversations “more fun and personal.”
The company also recently announced the arrival of “premium” Microsoft Teams in 2023, offering optional additional premium features that will make meetings more personal, smart and secure.
